OK, I’ve decided to soldier on and deal with the mp3 situation. For my second music post I’ve decided to honor the namesake for this blog by posting something Tears For Fears-related.
Mancrab, for all intents and purposes, is Tears For Fears. They wrote the song, played the instruments, & produced the track. The only difference is that they hired an unknown singer and changed the band name. Why they did this, I have no idea. They only released one song as Mancrab and it only appeared on the soundtrack to The Karate Kid, Part II. It’s a good song…not their best, but still entertaining. I’m sure it would have worked better had one of the TFF guys actually sung it. It was produced sometime between the release of “Songs From the Big Chair” and “The Seeds of Love.”
I recently discovered that a promo 12” single was released here in the states (and non-promo abroad) back in the 80’s that had an extended remix and instrumental version. I was lucky enough to find a copy and wanted to share it here with you. Unfortunately, the extended mix is .3mb too large a file to upload, so your stuck with the regular album version. ENJOY!
Well, it already looks like I won’t be keeping this blog for very long. When I uploaded Sue Saad’s “Looker” I realized that tumblr only accepts MP3’s and no other song file formats. I have a Mac and all of my vinyl I have been ripping onto my computer as AAC’s! UGH! Such a pain in the butt! Oh well, it would have been fun to have used this blog…
First up is the song “Looker” by Sue Saad. This is the theme song for the film of the same name. This is taken from a very scratchy old 45 single I found. I loved this movie when I was a kid and used to have the lyrics to this song memorized. I never knew that they had released it as a single. (Only in Europe, however.) It was released on vinyl in the USA only as a promo, which is what I have. Someday I hope to find a copy of the European 45 that has the b-side “Highwire,” which was the other song Sue Saad recorded for the film.
EDIT: This is actually the film version of the song and not the single version (which appears elsewhere on my blog).
If you haven’t noticed yet, the current theme I’m using for my blog is based on Alfred Hitchcock’s “Vertigo.” Or, more precisely, the graphic design created for the film by Saul Bass. I’ve always been a big fan of Saul Bass’ work, so I couldn’t resist using this theme. Hope you enjoy!
Welcome to my new music blog. I hope you have fun.
I recently started buying vinyl records again. Mainly this was so I could collect a lot my favorite music that never made its way to CD. But in addition it’s been an outlet for me to experiment and discover new music that I may have never heard of back when vinyl was king.
I’ll be posting mainly stuff that, to the best of my knowledge, is no longer available for purchase anywhere (other than your local used record store).
I may change the layout and/or title of the blog as I go along, but in the meantime…Welcome to “Songs from the Big Chair.”
